In this module will be using Magiclay to create a range of fish and undersea creatures. I will show you a technique to help you draw a whole range of delightful fish and the five lessons will provide you with different ideas and techniques to create your own creatures. The lessons are structured so that once you have the basic skills you can then use your own creativity to go crazy with your own unique colours and designs.
Introduction and brief discussion about the materials.
Activity 1 Making our fish chart and creating a fish By making a chart of different fish bodies, fins and tails we will be able to create a series of unique fish shapes as a starting point for our Magiclay fish. This activity also includes how to use basic modelling techniques to make a textured white fish.
Activity 2 Colourburst fish This activity is all about colour. We use the techniques learnt in the first activity and the fish chart to create a colourful fish. We look at the effect rolling and pressing has on the Magiclay shapes and colours.
Activity 3 Blended Fish We explore the use of colour and learn how to create a gradual colour change by mixing different ratios of two colours together. This fish is finished off with decorative fins and tails.
Activity 4 School of Fish Using just one small piece of Magiclay we learn how to shape and manipulate it into a small fish. We use modelling tools, scissors and contrasting coloured Magiclay to create small life-like fish. They are quick and easy to make allowing us to experiment with different shapes and designs.
Activity 5 Undersea Scene We create a series of small underwater creatures and plants from the brightly coloured Magiclay. Simple techniques to make starfish, shells, seaweed, and sea anemones are explained. The result is an underwater scene bursting with colour.
